Australia Broadband uses Telstra’s ADSL2+ network, which provides maximum download speeds of up to 20Mbps into the home and maximum upload speeds of up to 850 Kbps.
If you are unable to get ADSL2+ you will be offered an ADSL service where available, which provides a maximum download speeds of up to 8Mbps into the home, and maximum upload speeds of up to 384 Kbps
Actual speeds may be lower, and will vary based on a number of factors including distance to the exchange, internet traffic in your neighbourhood, how you use your service, the quality of your telephone line, and the manner in which you are connecting to your Belong modem.
If you have used up all of your allowance, your connection speed will automatically be slowed. Check your data usage by logging into your account online or with the Australia Broadband app. We understand that this can happen from time to time, which is why you can change your plan online one per month from the ‘Manage service’ section of your account.
The graph provides theoretical maximum download speeds based on distance from the exchange.
Given the distance from the exchange is the same for all ADSL/2+ providers, the impact to speed should be similar.

Check whats impacting the speed
Activities such as downloading large files, updating software or backing up photos will impact the internet speed for everybody in your house.
An easy way to check if any device is impacting speed is to disconnect each device from your home network one by one and run a speed test. If you notice any improvement in speed check what programs you have running on the device you disconnected.
Check if anyone else is using your service
Slow speed may be due to multiple people using your Wi-Fi connection. The below steps instruct you how to see who is connected to your modem:
- Australia Broadband modem
- Open an internet browser and type 10.0.0.138 in the address bar
- When prompted enter in the username and password on the back of your modem
- Click on “Device” then “DHCP” and you will be shown a list of the devices connected up to your home network.

- Australia Broadband Technicolor modem
- Open and internet browser and type 10.0.0.138 in the address bar.
- Click on “Local Network” and you will be shown a list of the devices connected up to your home network.
