The following settings are standard across all Australia Broadband  broadband connections and can be set in most modems and routers.

Are you using a modem purchased from Australia Broadband?

Modems from Australia Broadband are fully supported by our support team, unlocked and come pre-configured for your convenience so you can plug and play! We’re also able to troubleshoot any issue more quickly and if you have a fault with your modem while you are a customer of Australia Broadband, we will replace your modem at no cost during the warranty period.

Are you using your own BYO Modem?

If you are using your own BYO modem, it must be an nbn-ready modem and unlocked. If your BYO modem is not nbn-ready or is locked to your prior internet service provider, you’ll need to purchase a new modem to connect to the nbn™.

To keep things simple, we recommend you buy one of our nbn™ compatible Wi-Fi modems.

Your modem or router must be fibre-ready for use with an nbn™ FTTP or Fixed Wireless service.

Most of the settings will be taken care of by the nbn™ Connection Box or equivalent fibre unit. However, it’s important to configure the right WAN Type on routers to stop them trying to take over the job of the Connection Box which can cause connection issues.

Mode/Modulation:Ethernet WAN
Connection Type/Mode/WAN Type:PPPoE

Please note some fibre services will need to use PPPoE. If you’re not sure which setting you need, please contact us.

DNS:Automatic

Not all settings may be required when setting up your modem. If you encounter a setting that isn’t listed here (e.g. MTU) in your modem’s Setup Wizard/Quick Setup then it should be fine to leave it as the default.

All nbn™ FTTN and FTTB must use an nbn-ready VDSL2 compatible modem to connect to the internet on the nbn™.

If you brought your own BYO modem to Australia Broadband, please note not all modems support VDSL2. Please check the technical specifications or the manufacturer’s website if you’re not sure.

Did you buy a modem from Australia Broadband?

If you purchased a modem from Australia Broadband, your modem will be VDSL2 compatible. All modems sold by Australia Broadband are nbn-ready and will work on all nbn™ technology types.

Connections using third-party hardware are not supported, however, you may choose to connect your own Wi-Fi router to the NBN Co Home Router for nbn™ HFC and FTTC to handle your home Wi-Fi network.
